How we calculate

Every calculator on GulfExpatTools follows the published private-sector labour law of the country it covers. This page lists the legal basis and formula for each tool so you can check our work.

UAE

Legal basis: Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 (UAE Labour Law), Article 51.
Formula: Daily basic wage = monthly basic ÷ 30. Gratuity = (21 × daily wage × years up to 5) + (30 × daily wage × years above 5).

Saudi Arabia

Legal basis: Saudi Labour Law, Articles 84 and 85.
Formula: Full award = (monthly wage ÷ 2 × years up to 5) + (monthly wage × years above 5). If you resign, multiply by 0, 1/3, 2/3 or 1 depending on service.

Qatar

Legal basis: Qatar Labour Law No. 14 of 2004, Article 54.
Formula: Daily basic wage = monthly basic ÷ 30. Gratuity = 21 × daily wage × years of service.

Kuwait

Legal basis: Kuwait Private Sector Labour Law No. 6 of 2010, Article 51.
Formula: Daily wage = monthly wage ÷ 26. Indemnity = (15 × daily wage × years up to 5) + (monthly wage × years above 5), capped at 18 months' wage.

Oman

Legal basis: Oman Labour Law (Royal Decree 53/2023), Article 61.
Formula: Gratuity = old-rule amount for service before 31 July 2023 + (basic wage × years of service from 31 July 2023).

Bahrain

Legal basis: Bahrain Labour Law No. 36 of 2012 and the SIO end-of-service scheme (from 1 March 2024).
Formula: Gratuity = (monthly wage ÷ 2 × years up to 3) + (monthly wage × years above 3).
Official authority: Social Insurance Organization (SIO)

Overtime

UAE: Federal Decree-Law 33/2021, Article 19. Saudi Arabia: Labour Law Article 107. Qatar: Labour Law 14/2004. Hourly wage uses a 30-day month.

Service length

Service is measured in days between the joining date and the last working day, divided by 365.25 to allow for leap years. Partial years are counted in proportion, as the laws allow.

Currency pages use live mid-market rates from ExchangeRate-API, cached in your browser for up to six hours.
