Qatar overtime rules
- Normal working hours are up to 48 hours a week (8 hours a day), and 36 hours a week (6 a day) in Ramadan.
- Total working hours including overtime should not exceed 10 hours a day, except to prevent serious loss or danger.
- Normal overtime: basic hourly wage + at least 25%.
- Night overtime (9pm–6am): basic hourly wage + at least 50%, except for shift workers.
- Rest day: a substitute rest day, or basic wage + at least 50% for the hours worked.
- Overtime is based on basic wage only.
Formula
Hourly basic wage = monthly basic ÷ 30 ÷ 8. Overtime pay = hourly wage × 1.25 (or 1.5) × hours.
Example
Basic salary QAR 3,000 → hourly wage 3,000 ÷ 30 ÷ 8 = QAR 12.50. Twenty normal overtime hours = 12.50 × 1.25 × 20 = QAR 312.50. Six night hours = 12.50 × 1.5 × 6 = QAR 112.50.
Minimum wage in Qatar
Qatar's minimum wage is QAR 1,000 basic per month, plus QAR 300 for food and QAR 500 for housing if the employer does not provide them. Overtime is calculated on the basic wage.
