Final Settlement Checklist: What to Collect Before Leaving a Gulf Job

Leaving a Gulf job, whether you resign, your contract ends or you are going home for good, involves money, paperwork and government records. Use this checklist so nothing is missed.

1. Money you should receive

• Salary up to your last working day.
• End-of-service gratuity: check it with our calculators for UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain.
• Unused annual leave payment.
• Notice pay, if the employer ended the contract without notice.
• Unpaid overtime or bonuses written in your contract.
• Air ticket home, if your contract or local law provides it.

2. Documents to collect

• Written final settlement statement showing every item and deduction.
• Experience or service certificate (you are entitled to one in most GCC countries).
• Salary certificate, useful for your next job or bank.
• Copies of contract, salary slips and your last bank statements.

3. Cancellations and closures

• Confirm your work permit and residence visa are cancelled correctly, or transferred if you are changing jobs.
• Clear or close loans and credit cards. Unpaid debts can lead to travel bans or cases.
• Close or keep your bank account on purpose; some banks freeze accounts after visa cancellation.
• Cancel phone contracts, utilities, rent contracts and internet to avoid bills in your name.
• Deregister cars or transfer ownership, and clear traffic fines.

4. If something is wrong
